Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
A practical, skills-based approach to feeling better and doing what works
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
At Do What Works, we keep things clear and useful. We treat clients using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy—a practical, short term, research-backed treatment.

CBT holds that the way we think about things shapes how we feel, and how we feel often drives what we do. Sometimes those thoughts are encouraging (“I can handle this”), and sometimes they’re more like a pesky soundtrack stuck on repeat (“I’ll never get this right”). Using CBT, we'll help you with:

-
Thoughts – learning to spot the sticky ones that trip you up.
-
Feelings – understanding what they’re trying to tell you (without letting them drive the bus).
-
Behaviors – experimenting with small, doable steps that can shift how you feel over time.
Exposure Therapy
For individuals and families experiencing anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorder, a key element of CBT is exposure therapy.
Exposure therapy is like bravery training. When something makes you anxious—whether it’s speaking up in class, dogs, or even just the thought of feeling anxious—your brain learns to treat it like danger. The natural response to danger? Avoid it! The problem is, avoidance teaches your brain that the fear is too big to handle.

Exposure therapy flips that script. Together, we supportively (and at your pace) practice facing the things that feel scary, starting small and building up over time. Each step shows your brain: “Hey, I can do this. This isn’t as dangerous as it feels.” Over time, fears shrink and your confidence and bravery muscles grow.
